The University of Ibadan is the home of one of the oldest collections of Islamic manuscripts in Nigeria, gathered from the northern part of the country in 1954. The majority of authors are leaders of the Sokoto caliphate which was established by Sheikh Osman Fodi, his brother Abdallah and his son Mohammed. The catalogue describes 422 manuscripts from a collection of about 1,500 manuscripts dealing with different subjects such as tawḥid, jurisprudence, taṣawwuf and jihād. The catalogue has a set of authors’ indices.
