The pivotal theme of this book is the mystical orientation in the poetry and thoughts of Pakistani Muslim poet, Muhammad Iqbal. The book is the monograph of al-Furqān Foundation’s fifth public lecture, delivered at Victoria Albert Hall in London by German orientalist Annemarie Schimmel in November 1996. Iqbāl. discovered the secrets of creative love through the gate of sufism. He considered such love, according to Schimmel, as the force which creates values and can never be content with its creation, a force that changes man incessantly. He believed love an experience that may offer itself to the believer at the middle of the road or at its very end, the supreme form of the creation of values and ideals and the endeavour towards achieving these.
