On 4th-5th of December 1993, Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation organised its second conference, on the topic of "The Codicology of Islamic Manuscripts".

The conference included papers on the art of mixing ink, the use of paper and parchment in Islamic manuscripts, the Arabic papyri and the characteristics of book binding during the Mamlūk period.

The conference also looked at the human aspects on studying the manuscripts, such as the ancient methods of authoring, the importance of the cover/title page in describing the manuscript as well as the phenomenon of the manuscripts with unknown authorship, and the example of the manuscripts in the fields of geography and history.
