Summary
This catalogue which is printed in 8 volumes descriptively lists 4000 manuscripts that are to be found in the Institute of Research on Human Sciences in Niger. Most were written in Arabic and some were written in African languages such as Hawsa, Fulani, and Berber. The subjects covered in the catalogue are the sciences of language, the linguistic variations of the Qurʾān (qirāʾāt), inheritance law, Ḥadīth, tawḥīd, medicine, and the fundamentals of court proceedings. However most of the manuscripts fall under the category of Sufism, jurisprudence, praise of the Prophet or the political and social history of the caliphate of Sokoto and countries of West Africa.
