Summary
This book includes the lectures given in the introductory course on the critical edition of manuscripts, which was organised by the Centre for the Study of Islamic Manuscripts, affiliated to Al-Furqān, in collaboration with the Centre for Editing Texts at Al-Azhar. The training course took place at Al-Azhar University in the period between 2-7 June 2012. This subject was taught by a group of renowned professors who are experts in the critical editing of manuscripts. They include, among others, Dr. Hassan al-Shafiʿi, Dr. Hussain Nassar, Dr. Ayman Fuad Sayyid, Dr. ʿAbd al-Hamid Madkur and Dr. Muhammad ʿAbd al-Wahab Jalal. As far as the book content is concerned, it consists of a development on the history of the critically edited texts and their rules; the problem facing the critically edited texts in addition to the methodology of the critical editing of legal, rhetorical, historical and geographical documents, biographies (tarājim and ṭabaqāt) as well as literary and scientific texts.
