Summary
This book holds the proceedings of the training course organised by the Centre for the Study of Islamic Manuscripts of Al-Furqān Foundation, in co-operation with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Ben M’sik, University Hassan II in Casablanca and the Royal Library (al-Khizana al-Malakiyya) in Rabat, from 18 to 28 March 2013. The studies presented at this session focused on the concept of academic critical editing, its history, principals, rules, conditions and challenges. The studies encompassed manuscripts from a wide range of subject fields such as, books of Ḥadīth, biographies, books on the Sciences of the Qurʾān, texts on Sufism, scientific manuscripts – with Isfizārī’s manuscript on mechanics used as a model. They also included a number of lectures on useful reference works in the field of critical editing, and the comments of editors on the titles of the manuscripts, the place and importance of gutter margin and tamallukāt (notes of ownership).
